Session Zero

THE CHARACTERS

Heyoo, a Firbolg Druid who witnessed her clan’s destruction by a chromatic dragon. She has since travelled far and wide, trying to come to terms with her grief and loss, trying to find a new place to belong.

Zatanna, a Bronze Dragonborn Sorceror whose uncontrolled magic caused a tragedy. She now seeks to better understand the nature of magic so as to prevent this from happening again.

Heyoo and Zatanna start the story already knowing each other, having met each other and connected on their respective pursuits for knowledge, understanding, and belonging.

Helga Fireforge, a Dwarf Paladin who is devoted to the ideals of Freedom and Equality. She aims to take action against the fascist regimes emerging in her region.

Twiss, an Air Genasi Rogue whose morally ambiguous decision-making often gets her into trouble with the law. She tries to be a good person, but she often finds this desire at odds with her love of freedom and, well, staying alive.

Nalla Threadtwister, a Goliath Barbarian who is Kind of a Big Deal in some parts of the land, having made something of a name for herself as a Gladiator. She is ever in pursuit of the next challenge, the next contest, the next chance for glory.

Helga, Twiss, and Nalla start the story travelling together. Twiss has signed onto Helga’s cause, while they convinced Nalla to join them as muscle.

Boticelli, a Tortle Monk, disillusioned by the haughty attitude of his 4 brothers once they became famous adventurers, has not long ago left his family behind. He has decided to seek out their long lost sister, who was previously dismissed as lesser and unworthy by his brothers, and thus excluded from their adventures.


SESSION SUMMARY

Zatanna and Heyoo started the game in the Lady Luck in Daggerford, playing cards; the Zatanna likes to exercise her brain by doing so. She was playing a game (and winning) against a rich, high-ranking local man, while Heyoo stood in the crowd, trying her best not to freak out in such a cramped, busy space. The rich dude eventually had of his goons started a brawl in the tavern, accused the Sorceror and her friend of starting it, and had them arrested. The townsguard, apparently not wanting trouble from someone in the town who has status, imprisoned them.

Helga, Twiss and Nalla are travelling through Daggerford on their way north and decide to stop for the evening. They are stopped and searched by the townsguard, who plant Traveler's Dust on them as pretext to arrest and imprison them (Helga, by coincidence, seems to closely resemble a person of interest in a town matter).

Boticelli, travelling alone, wakes up in the prison with the other 5 players already in it, himself with limited memory of what happened for him to end up there. He is able to remember a flash of bright blue and someone muttering an incantation…but then nothing else.

The players, all imprisoned on false pretenses, are asked by an NPC to work together to break out. The session then becomes a PRISON BREAK! The players spoke to other prisoners, learned a bit about the state of things in Daggerford (it’s not good… something seems to have happened that’s emboldened the local authorities to abuse their power) and concocted a plan to escape. Helga, placed in solitary confinement, is at one stage interrogated separately by an unseen figure who seems to believe that she knows the Daggerfords. After this, she is put into the main part of the prison and is no longer in solitary. The players work together to bust out of their cells; in doing so, they murdered every single townsguard they came across.

While breaking out, the players do hear some commotion outside the prison. Worried that they are reinforcements coming to the prison, the players work quickly to try to find a way out of the prison building.

We ended the session with them just having found a secret exit in one part of the prison. Going through there will be next session's business!
